Lovin' the Staycation!

Boulder Valley schools got out for spring break last Friday,  and the Kellogg family has been sticking close to home and laying low. Despite the mellowness, we've been having a really great week. Last weekend, I was riding my road bike down Cherryvale Road looking out at the city of Boulder with the Flatirons above and the high peaks of the continental divide looming in the background and I couldn't help thinking that we live in a great place to stay home!

Daffodils are popping up in town!
Kate and I escaped to Estes Park for two nights to a little condo on Fall River that she'd found a two-fer on a local coupon site, and we actually managed to have a couple nights sans children and even the little Queso. Kate did some magnificent overnight and playdate arranging and Babbo and Yia-yia stepped up big-time so that we could go and enjoy the gorgeous (but parched) spring weather in the high country.
Cool cyclops rock on our hike
Gem Lake- the goal of the hike- a pretty little puddle
Queso went to spend a few days with her the breeder we got her from and she came back today just as good as we left her. We're still knocking on wood, but she is proving to be a very smart, docile, well-behaved puppy, and we're determined to make up for how clueless we were the first time we had puppies.

The new basketball hoop is in the driveway, and it's been getting a lot of use. It's so nice to have the kids heading right outside all the time to shoot hoops and getting their big, loud, hard-to-entertain butts out of the house.

Alden hit the trails at the bike park for the first time
Reid is off on a Sierra Club school trip to Fruita for 3 days of riding tomorrow afternoon and we're going to continue puttering around the house, training the pup and enjoying all the outdoor sport options we've got for a few more days. Go to love hanging around the house!
