March in New Hampshire

Sunday Brunch at the Davis's in Rye - Molly and Fletch.  She is in the History Dept at Exeter and they live there but have a summer house in Newcastle, NH.  Kelly and Rich - the Clarks joined use, they looked OK and had recovered from auto accident in the fall.

Dinner at Paul and Pia's on Friday night - Peter Cura, Pia, Mom.

Wednesday night gathering at Anne's -Clarks, Lemelands, Kelloggs, Anne.  A real traditional gathering now.  We all seemed OK but older with new joint aches and fancy medicines but all the brains are working.  Toasting Elli's birthday and a slightly off key rendition of happy birthday were highlights.

Inge and Bob eddy joined us for lunch at Bread and Chocolate.  Inge was a full of life as ever and had some interesting tales of the League of NH Craftsmen and its new building- we stopped in and it is beautiful with a display gallery for shows, a room for permanent exhibit, library, workshops, and, what Elli would love, beautiful office space.  It is across from Capital Center for the Arts - (two photos below.)

Tuesday I had lunch with a former co-worker at the Historical Society and Mom went to Vermont Monday P.M. for overnight with her friend, Ann Janeway.  Tuesday night we went to an interesting talk by Jack Matlock, former ambassador to the USSR and SPS parent.  He was good talking about the way the Cold War really ended - he was in Moscow those last years and was close to Gorbachev.  He really played down the idea the US "won."  We saw a dozen old friends from my days as World Affairs President and I got a very nice intro to the group.  It is truly amazing how much the organization has grown.  I had 38 international visitors when I was doing the program and they are up to 278 last year - a great program to get NH aware of other nations!

Nora, Paula, and Mary Tracy met us at the car rental, we had lunch at the Common Man, and Paula and Mary took us to the bus for trip to Boston on Friday.  The flight home arrived 35 min.early and was very nice as was the flight to Boston.  Non-stop Southwest Air with pickup at Logan by Paul and car waiting in Boulder thanks to Rico.

Loading rental car at Anne's.  Note forsythia in full bloom on March 23rd.  We had amazing weather -showers on arrival then a week of sun with temps between 70 and 84! ! !

Last shot - new science/math building at SPS - it is monstrous - across from red barn and blocking Mem Hall.  It has huge halls, very high ceilings, lots of labs for specialized courses I've never heard of, and a basement level devoted to robotics.  Maybe I'm jealous looking at the history rooms but it is really a disgusting display of money to burn.

On Monday and Tuesday I DID work giving my presentation on the AP - what I get paid for and what makes this trip costless for us.  The sessions went well and we had over 100 high school juniors and seniors each day - they were sharp and nice and responsive - fun to work with.
